In the beginning of September 2015, the National Alliance for Voluntary Action launched its latest project “Home without violence”. The project was ranked first with a total of 101 points by Measure 2: “Organizing campaigns, which raise public awareness, with special focus on Roma people and other vulnerable groups.” by the program “Domestic violence and violence, based on gender” of the Ministry of Interior; funded by the Norwegian financial mechanism 2009-14.
NAVA is the leading organization for the project “Home without violence”; its partners include the Municipality of Plovdiv, Association “Nov Pat” – Hayredin, and Foundation “Stefan Noykov” – Sofia. The overall financing of the project totals up to 45 320 € .
The main goal of the project is to reduce the cases of domestic violence in the Roma communities in the Municipalities of Plovdiv, Stamboliyski, Byala Slatina, Vratsa, Kyustendil, Pirdop, Sliven, Yambol, Haskovo and Krichim by publicly available and attractive information campaigns and initiatives.
The project also sets as a goal to produce and apply a specific widely communicative channel that will raise awareness and knowledge about domestic abuse in the Roma communities; it would also increase the number of people, who seek refuge and support after having suffered domestic violence. And last but not least, the project will involve citizens from the Roma community as volunteers in the process of preventing domestic violence and will achieve an effective and continuous dialogue between the interested sides that are working on the problems of domestic violence.
The targeted groups of the project are women and children, who are victims of domestic violence in the Roma districts in Plovdiv, Stamboliyski, Kyustendil, Pirdop, Sliven, Yambol, Haskovo, Byala Slatina, Vratsa and Krichim; the extended families of the victims of domestic violence, their friends and acquaintances, their neighbors, the employers from the districts, family doctors and the overall local community, including representatives of different services and institutions.
The planned activities of the project are the following: to carry out a forum session (public discussions) in the municipalities, included in the project under the slogan “Domestic violence isn’t a ‘domestic’ problem” with the purpose of improving the interactions between the institutions, the quality care and protection of the ones who have suffered domestic violence on a local level; the organization of campaigns “From door to door”, realized by Roma volunteers in their respected districts; informational campaigns “Home without violence”; a photo competition in the social medias – “My home is without violence”.
